All who are going to Portland - PLEASE READ: Based on the turnout (or lack thereof) of students for the concrete canoe placement today, I think some basic concepts need to be reiterated concerning expectations of all who have committed to going to Portland. The list of those going is shown below. We ended up not placing the concrete today because we were lacking one ingredient in the concrete mix; but even if we had the materials, we would not have been able to do the placement because we did not have enough bodies. So here are two important expectations: Expectation No. 1: The one event of the year where we need excellent participation is when we place concrete on the canoe. This is critical. We are going to try again and place concrete starting at 4:30 PM on Tuesday, March 18. All people who are going on the trip are expected to be there. IF YOU CANNOT MAKE IT, PLEASE LET PAT AND KAYLA KNOW. We need to be able to get enough people there to make it happen. WE CANNOT PUSH THE SCHEDULE BACK FURTHER. We need to pour on Tuesday to allow 28 days for curing and then have time to paint the canoe. And we need many people to place the concrete as fast as we can so it does not set up early and it helps make it go faster so we wont be there all night. Those who are members of the Carroll ASCE group, even if you are not going on the trip (many of you are copied on this email), should try to be there as well simply because it is a chapter event. Expectation No. 2: Clear communication for those going to Portland is critical. You are expected to check your Carroll email and the Carroll ASCE Facebook page regularly (at least once a day) to make sure you know when meetings and events are occurring. Communication to Pat and Kayla is important - both in letting them know that either you can participate or cant. If they dont hear from you, then you are not being a responsible member of the team.
