All writing is dreaming. ~ Jorge Luis Borges Well, hello Friday... where you been all my life? Spring and autumn weekends are the best, for me. Theres something in the beginnings and the endings, the allure of the creation, and the winding down. And when you think about it, there really arent that many in a year. So you have to take advantage of each one. The same with Fridays. There are only an average of 52 a year. And while I certainly applaud you for looking at them as the beginning of these marvelous weekends, I also commend you to think of them as the end of your creative week. And, as the end, a time to review what youve done, what youve accomplished during this singular week. Sometimes...actually most of the time...we evaluate in terms of quantity: how many pages did we produce? How many words did we write? How many photos did we take or canvases did we paint? I want you to change your way of thinking and focus on the experiential, not the quantitative. Ask yourself... How much did I dream this week? And when you do that, feel how you react intellectually and even viscerally. Its completely different for me. When I ask how many pages Ive produced, the answer almost always is not enough and my stomach tightens. But when I ask how much did I dream this week I can also say not enough but there is a twinge of excitement, an actual feeling that makes me want to drop everything and head to play with my words right then.
