All you need is love. A message that John Lennon would have - TopicsExpress

All you need is love. A message that John Lennon would have reiterated. Ambiguities in the Ferguson case prompted me to show restraint and refrain from immediately lashing out against the injustice that many of us knew existed. I was not informed enough to make a clear decision about how I felt about the incident itself (although I suspect that more research on my part would have only revealed more contradictory evidence), but I knew that I opposed the ignorance shown by both sides, especially when it manifested itself as violence. But Daniel Pantaleos murder of Eric Garner is a disgustingly repulsive and blatantly obvious example of racism and police brutality, and I cannot begin to fathom the sheer amount of hatred that must exist in the hearts of some of our fellow citizens for this homicide to first be committed and second be excused without the necessary and logical disciplinary actions. I plead with protestors to remain peaceful and hopeful even when facing the ugliest forms of oppression, and to remember the impact that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his supporters made through nonviolent forms of expression. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. I pray that we all foster the love necessary to bring us through these times of darkness and closer to a world of peace, love, and happiness.
