Allah says: And those who honour the distinguishing signs of Allah, verily it (this respect) stems from the piety of the heart. (Quran 22:32). R.E.S.P.E.C.T. is what Aretha Franklin spelled out in one of her songs. It seems the world is lacking R.E.S.P.E.C.T. now a days. Kids dont respect their parents. Parents dont respect their kids. People bump you without an excuse me or pardon me. Everywhere we go we run into levels of RUDENESS and lack of R.E.S.P.E.C.T. But Allah indicates that piety breeds respect for others. Because we all deserve some level of respect. As all human beings are creatures of Allahs design, a distinguishing sign of Allah, thus we must respect all other human beings. That does not mean we have to agree with their choices or agree with their opinions, but indeed we must at least respect them as a human being. Respect for ourselves guides our morals, respect for others guides our manners. Above all, dont lie to ourselves. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others.
