Allah says in the Quran, “Allah loves the Steadfast/who be patient (sabirin)” (Quran,3:146) “Allah loves the doers of Good (Mohsinin)” (Quran,2:195) “Allah loves those who act Justly (Muqsitin)” (Quran,5:42) “Allah loves those Righteous (Allah-conscious) (Muttaqin)” (Quran,3:76) “Allah loves those who Rely (upon Him) (Mutawaqilin)” (Quran,3:159) “Allah loves those who are constantly Repentant (Tawwabin) And loves those who Purify themselves (Mutatahhirin)(Quran,2:222) So here we can see Allah loves the people who are patient, steadfast, just, righteous, rely on Allah, purify themselves, repent and do good deeds. Those who say, Nothing will happen to us except what Allah has decreed for us: He is our protecting friend: and on Allah let the Believers put their trust.”(Quran,9:51) We must always remember that everything in our life is only a test. Allah says, “Wealth and children are [but] adornment of the worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for [ones] hope.”(Quran,18:46) Therefore, we must put our trust in Allah. Whatever Allah does must be better for us. This is the formula to be happy in our life, and it makes Allah love us and become our protecting friend. The more we remember Him, more He remembers us. Allah says, “Therefore remember Me, I will remember you, and be thankful to Me, and do not be ungrateful to Me.”(Quran,2:152) When we try to get close to Him, He gets more close to us. As Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, If one goes one step towards Allah, Allah comes two steps towards such a one; if one goes walking towards Allah, Allah comes running to him. In this way, Allah makes us think, hear and see everything and every event with His wisdom. Look at this, another beautiful narration of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), “Allah said, I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a pious worshipper of mine. And the most beloved things with which my slave comes nearer to Me, is what I have enjoined upon him; and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (praying or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) till I love him, so I become his sense of hearing with which he hears, and his sense of sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he grips, and his leg with which he walks; and if he asks Me, I will give him, and if he asks My protection (Refuge), I will protect him; (i.e. give him My Refuge). (Bukhari, 8:509) Then Allah says, “Unquestionably, [for] the friend of Allah there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve Those who believed and be righteous, For them are good tidings in the worldly life and in the Hereafter. No change is there in the words of Allah. That is what is the great achievement.”(Quran,10:62-64) Allah says He is wali (friend/protector) of such people; and who could be a better friend/protector than Him? In this deceptive material world, we love so many things like people, animal, wealth, physics, fame, job, business, hobbies etc and we do our very best to keep us happy by them although nothing in this world can benefit us in any way or protect us from any harm. If we could achieve His friendship and protection, then there wouldn’t be any distress, despair, dissatisfaction, frustration, misery and depression in our lives. Once a person purifies himself from all the evils, he does good righteous deeds. He always be fair, be patient, steadfast, relies on Allah as well as always repenting. Then, his Nafs changes its stages to come closer to Allah. There are seven stages of Nafs from Nafs-Ammara (commanding Nafs) which only commands without thinking if it is good or bad, to stage Marziya where Allah and the person are both Razi (happy) with the Nafs’ actions. Then Allah says, “On Judgment Day [To the righteous it will be said], O reassured Soul, Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], And enter among My [righteous] servants And enter My Paradise.(Quran, 89:27-30) This is what we should all work and hope for. We must try to take advantage of all the blessings Allah has given to us to advance ourselves and achieve this level. It is the level that makes us above angels. It is the answer of Allah, on asking of angels that, “are you making Adam khalifa (leader/ incharge) so that he spills blood and makes corruption in the earth; when we are always praising you?” Allah replied that what I know you, don’t know. Adam will have intellect, which he will use to recognize me, love me and worship me inspite, all the obstacles in the way. Infact, the things we call obstacles don’t remain obstacles when we know all of these are to test us and for a limited time. What we will get in the other life is far better than we could have in this world. Thus, our firm conviction in “la illaha il Allah, muhammad-ur-rasool-Allah” (no one is worthy of worship except Allah and Muhammad is His messenger) is the key to achieve eternal love and peace. If only we could bring this statement fully in our life by knowledge, contemplation, recognition, affirmation, submission, appreciation, love, friendship, trust, patience, consciousness, sincerity, intention and obedience.
