Alleged Boko Haram Sponsor, Sheriff cleared to contest for Senate seat Former governor of Borno State and alleged Boko Haram Sponsor, Ali Modu Sheriff, will contest for the Borno Central Senatorial seat after being cleared by the Department of State Security (DSS) over alleged involvement with the Boko Haram. Sheriff will contest under the platform of the PDP after he was handed the Borno Central Senatorial ticket through a consensus arrangement reached Thursday. Sources in the party confirmed the latest development yesterday. He will contest with Senator Ahmed Zannah Khalifa, who defected to the APC a few weeks ago. In 2011, Khalifa, then a member of the PDP, defeated Sheriff in the contest. Sheriff had not shown any interest in the Senate seat even after he defected to the PDP until last week when the DSS cleared him of sponsoring Boko Haram activities. The Borno PDP adopted a consensus plan on all seats that saw tickets allocated to aspirants including the governorship candidate after meetings were held in Abuja. Umar Sanda, the acting secretary of the PDP youth wing in Borno State, confirmed that Sheriff got the Senatorial ticket. “The arrangement was made in Abuja in a meeting attended by all stakeholders and we are okay with the arrangement,” Sanda said.
