Alleged Jamaican lottery scammer arrested in Florida Last Updated: 7:38 AM The US authorities have arrested an alleged Jamaican lottery scammer who was last year indicted by a federal grand jury on 37 charges of wire fraud. The 37 counts of fraud each carry a maximum sentence of 30 years. The Miami Herald newspaper is reporting that Oneike Mickhale Barnett was arrested on Tuesday in Orlando, Florida. It says the Jamaican ran a lottery scam milking thousands of dollars from elderly Florida victims. According to the media report, the scam began in October 2008, when Oneike Mickhale Barnett and accomplices started calling victims telling them they had won the lottery. It is reported that Barnett, who called from Jamaica but used an Internet program that allowed him to use a US area code, convinced the victims to pay fees in order to obtain the money and prizes. Some victims were told to mail, wire or send money by courier to the middlemen who then sent the money to Jamaica.
