Allegheny Portage Railroad NHS and Johnstown Flood NMem Proposes Fee Increases: Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site and Johnstown Flood National Memorial are seeking public comment on a proposal to increase their park entrance fees for the first time in almost a decade. Under this proposal, the cost of a seven-day entrance pass at each site will increase from $4 to $5. The cost of a National Parks of Western Pennsylvania annual pass will remain $15. All fee increases will go into effect in late May 2015 when the parks officially begin their summer seasons. A market study indicates that an entrance fee of $5 per person would make the entrance fees at Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site and Johnstown Flood National Memorial commensurate with nearby heritage tourism sites and similar National Park Service sites. This increase will have no impact on the cost of the America the Beautiful Interagency Passes. Annual Interagency Passes will remain $80, Senior Passes will continue to be available for those 62 years of age and older for a one-time fee of $10, and Access and Military Passes will continue to be free. Entrance to the parks is currently free for people age 15 and under and that policy will not change under this proposal. All fee revenue collected at Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site and Johnstown Flood National Memorial stays at the parks to fund visitor services. In 2014 entrance fees supported public interpretive programs and exhibits and in 2015 the additional fee revenue will be used to expand interpretive programming and educational outreach. Public comments will be accepted for a 30-day period starting December 19, 2014 and ending January 17, 2015. Comments will be accepted via U.S. mail at Superintendent, Attention Proposed Fee Increase, Allegheny Portage Railroad NHS, 110 Federal Park Road, Gallitzin, PA 16641. Feedback will also be accepted via email at [email protected]. ~NMK
