Alllllllllllrighty then. Anyone thats been reading our page for a while knows I have an irrational fear of anything with fur, feet, paws, claws, beaks, wings. cheeks, tails, and lets not forget slugs, snails, or whales. Top of the list? Lizards and snakes because I have a reptile dysfunction as well. Basically Im afraid of anything that slithers, swims, or flies, that breathes, or requires oxygen to live. Most plants Im OK with. Along with the dark, I also have a lighter side. I also do a little of this, a little of that, and have the occasional acid flashback. I like poetry, long walks on the beach, and poking dead things with a stick. In a nutty shell, I lead an enchanted life. Almost. Like many peeps I suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), or the lack of light for you laymen out there. Dont get me wrong, Im not afraid of the dark, just the things that go bump in the night. Because of this, night time is a very dark time for me, as it is for most of you. However; MY SAD, is probably just a little more acute than most, because I get mine 4 times a year. Basically, any time the season changes, something either migrates in, or crawls out of the primordial ooze or an underground bunker that can kill me. Yessss; Were back into our continuing series of wildlife gone wild. Cue the cellos! (AKA the Jaws theme music) Theyre Baaaaaaack Odder otter news: Photos capture an otter eating an alligator Otters have a reputation of being cute and cuddly animals, but photos were recently re-posted on Facebook that show a side of the carnivorous mammal that will probably surprise you. Photos taken by Geoff Walsh in the Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge in DeLeon Springs, Florida show an otter biting down on a young alligator. According to Facebook comments by the refuge, the otter was able to drag the alligator to land, at which point the prey stopped resisting. They were no longer visible, but when “crunching noises” were heard, it was clear that the otter was feeding on the reptile. The Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge notes that, “Despite their disarmingly cute appearance, otters are the apex predator of many fresh water habitats.” A YouTube search reveals otters battling with various large species including a video from the BBC of giant otters fighting for an hour with a Caiman, from the alligator family. Lets face it, these caiman crunching critters are killers, and theyre coming soon to a location near you. Oh sure, you can see otters in the northland almost any time of year but they get voracious in the springtime, and theyve been wading for bigger prey. Namely us. Who among us doesnt feel that youthful urge to splash through the puddles, or take our All Terrain Vehicles out into the swamps, or onto the still frozen waters of the state? I know I do, and so do the otters. The sound of splashing water to otters, is like the dark is to the boogeyman. OH; they want you to run, so they can trip you. And once yur down, its game over. Lets play it safe. Please stay on the trails, off of frozen waters, leave them otters and other wildlife alone, and stay alive. Wed like to see you back here again tomorrow. Were pullin for ya and as always; Well leave the lights on for you
