Allow me to brag on my son Kier a bit: he may never be a straight A student, and he hasnt won very many trophies, but he did something yesterday that made me prouder than either one of those things. I received a phone call in the middle of the day from his gym teacher. My first thought was, oh no, what did he do? She told me that she had been having a very difficult time with a tough class. She lost her patience and barked at them, the next kid that speaks out of turn is going to run laps for the rest of the period! When she turned her back on the group, she immediately heard some kids acting up again. She angrily asked the group who was acting up. The boys causing the problem denied doing anything. But then Kier stepped up and said, It was us. Then he looked at his friends and said, Lets go guys, and he lead them off to run laps. The teacher thought enough of the incident to take the time to call me about it. She said that she had rarely seen a jr. high school kid stand up and take responsibility for something like that, and that it made a big impression on the other students. Thats why Im so proud of him. I did mention to the teacher that she should pull him aside and give him a pat on the back for being honest... and then kick him in the butt and tell him to quit screwing around in class. :)
