Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Ronald Meyer. I live in Pearland, Texas which is just south of Houston. Back around 2001, I came into possession of some World War I artifacts. A dear friend of mine and her husband used to go to foreclosure auctions (these are auctions were the contents of storage units are sold if the owners are months late or delinquent in payment) on the weekends and purchased an old trunk and contents sight unseen in Alvin, Texas. Inside the trunk was found a framed Memorial Medallion, three medals, a small photo and the framed God and Country scroll for Corporal James Pownall of the Royal Engineers. Before my friend passed away in 2005, she gave these items to me since she knew I was very interested in military memorabilia. Neither of us knew what these were and all I could find online back then was what the set was. I could not find a reference to the name or anything else back then online no matter how much digging I did. Fast forward to the present and I tried again and found Mr. Roberts online blog with James Pownalls image and information on it. The items have been verified as belonging to Mr. Pownall. Since then, I have found out so much more information that Mr. Pownall is no longer just a name. He has become someone important and I feel so honored to be a part of upholding his memory. It will never be my intention to sell these items or break up these items. Attached are photos of the items the way they were given to me. I am very honored and privileged to be part of his history. May God Bless his memory and family and all those who fought in the great war.
