Allow me to wax - the - philosophical for a moment. It is 6:50 AM on Saturday here in Tokyo. Following two meetings, Genny and I will leave Tokyo for Yokohama and climb the gangway thus boarding Celebrity Millennium which will be our home for the next two weeks till we dock in Vancouver. Presently, I mirror Charles Dickenss immortal writing: it is the best of times, it is the worst of times. Indeed, we are fortunate to be enjoying a venture of this magnitude bearing Almighty Gods gifts of good health and fellowship. And that makes it a best time of our lives. But for me, a few tears will silently trickle as our limo moves out of Tokyo. I have come to be blessed with many friends in this vast metropolis. Friends whom I love and cherish. Perhaps this afternoons farewell drink with Masa Horie will evoke my deepest feelings. For Masa is that rare breed of humanity; the kind that represents all of what is good and pure about Gods children. I cannot write more than that for I know I will rip myself up if I do. I would give my blood for this man. And I know he would give his for me. Also today, I will sit, in good faith, with Yoshiyuki Nakamura of Pro Wrestling Zero1. Genny will be meeting him for the first time and she will begin with a hearty message of gratitude. Twice, our son Fred Rubenstein accompanied me on wrestling bookings in Japan. Both times, Mister Nakamura-san was the epitome of cordiality and generosity to our boy. A vivid memory was Freds first visit. After a sold-out pay per view we did, Mister Nakamura walked over to us and said to me: Fred-san, please take your son to Japanese pizza restaurant (it is well known, even in Tokyo, that pizza is my soul food). Mister Nakamura, who had paid me handsomely for refereeing, then slipped me an extra 10,000 yen - and thats about $100. I could go on and on. Succinctly, Yoshi Nakamura is one of the good things about pro wrestling. A standup guy whom I am honored to be able to call my friend and still do business with. I will not say a final sayonara to Masa, Yoshi, Duke and all my other pals. For, in my soul, I know I will return to these shores. Heck, I just have to. For a part of me is here. And no airplane, boat or space ship can ever transport that away. Domo Arigato, Nippon! May Almighty God bestow His gifts of good health and fortune on the people of Japan.
