Almost 12:30am here & getting up in 4 or so hours to ready for tour to Nafplion! Today was a fantastic day with new discoveries. Louise had a day on her own to explore National Archaeological Museum plus more while Jane & I decided to explore the Benaki Museum which we found so facinating that we walk a bit further & explored the Cycladic Museum which was amazing too. The costumes were quite incredible & of course, I took tons of photos to load after I get home to prove it. Jane & I lunched with Athenian elite atop the Benaki Museum overlooking the police station that issues forth the soldiers that guard the tomb in front of the Parliament Building. We know now the best corner to stand to watch the Sunday parade versus elbowing into position for an hour to gain a great spot in front of the Parliament building. Keeping that info a secret from Tripadvisor! After the museums & lunching we strolled through the National Gardens in the shade & came out right at the Grande Bretagne Hotel so we checked out their rooftop terrace & took pics of the view of the Rock, Athens central & beyond, then gained entrance to their pool for photos & went downstairs to their spa & fanaged a tour to get photos also...very cool hotel! Next we strolled down Ermou & cut over a street to find ourselves in Candyland....all down the street were numerous stores with windows filled with candy displayed, one prettier than the next. We were sucked into one store to by some goodies & took photos with the help! Finally Jane went back to the hotel while (refueled) I headed to the Flea Market (open on Sundays) & more shops I missed in the Plaka (Callie, found this years version of the sandles you wanted). Later, we all three went out for dinner & finally found the place I have been wanting to eat at since I took a photo of Callie in front of it years ago...Stamatopoulos Old Tavern which I find out is so very close to my Tripoden taverna favorite! There where 2 guys for entertainment...both marvelous (one a singer/guitar player, the other a master at the mandolin) So enjoyable from our perth on a raised balcony above all the other guests. Best meal so far too! I had grilled feta & grilled octopus but we all shared as it the Greek way. The Greeks play Costa Rica tonight in soccer but wont make it until the end...gotta hit the hay. So many photos to share...but tonight I leave you with only 3...just not enough time to hang on here & feel good for a long day tomorrow. Which reminds me...I will be incommunicado next 3 days..so see ya when we return to Athens...byeeeeeeeeeee
