Almost 170,000 people recently watched The Replacements do a song called Alex Chilton on the Tonight Show. This clip drives my point home on the deficit or disconnect between the way the rest of the world sees Memphis and the way we see ourselves. This clip needs to be viewed by Memphis city government, so they can understand the irony of how we treat our musical heritage by destroying the buildings (in this case The Mid-South Coliseum) that could define Memphis tourism (within a tourism zone). As a tour guide, I can tell you that tourists want to have an experience that is real and within the authentic structure itself.
