Almost 20 years since the war, some 9000 people are still missing - TopicsExpress

Almost 20 years since the war, some 9000 people are still missing in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Out of that number, some 1000 are people from my hometown, Prijedor. Some of my family and friends were disappeared, and I know first hand the trauma of the hellish limbo suffered by their families. I made a film with families of four young men disappeared after the fall of Srebrenica and in a way entered this endless, poisonous paralysis myself. August 30 is the International Day of the Disappeared, and we at ICTJ will over the next week publish several excellent pieces to highlight the suffering that this heinous crime inflicts upon the disappeared and their families, especially women. I am particularly proud of the collaboration with some of the greatest world photographers who have worked to depict the plight of the families of the disappeared, which includes my friend Ziyah Gafic, and the likes of Susan Meiselas, Gervasio Sánchez, Rodrigo Abd, Marcelo Brodsky and others. Spare a moment to check it out and share.
