Almost Christmas... Over the last few weeks, I have received many fabulous notes about my little Christmas tradition, the Christmas Countdown. They ranged from ‘take me off the stupid list’ to ‘I love this tradition’, from ‘Dude, you posted this already in 2011’ to ‘you are getting rather sentimental as you are getting old. And no, those are not written over the year, but typically the last activity of the day with a glass of wine in hand while reflecting on the things that happened that day (and life in general). And quite honestly, most of the comments are very true – I am getting more sentimental and reflective, both towards the end of the year as well as with age. One is running like crazy all year long, I think it is essential to switch off and leave the inbox alone every now and then (and while I am typing this I can see my kids cringe as I tend to work pretty much every day of the year and rarely do emails go unanswered for more than 24 hours (or 8?) … But at the same time, ever since starting BEYONDHOSPITALITY in 2008 life has changed – there is no regular paycheck, there is no big corporation, there is a only a group of 8 fabulous people working hard to make incredible projects successful, unique and special. From our humble beginnings we evolved to what I always envisioned (or hoped) we will do: Hotel & Restaurant development, creation of fabulous restaurant concepts, Hotel Technical Services, Project Management, Restaurant operations (very proudly, we have partnered with both Gaston Acurio and Ernie Els!). Or maybe I haven’t.
