Almost one milllion people have dropped off the electoral register - TopicsExpress

Almost one milllion people have dropped off the electoral register after changes to voting laws by the Tories and Lib Dems. Heres the article I wrote in this mornings Daily Mirror about this scandal: This government is betraying the next generation. Whether it was David Cameron’s determination to build a country which works only for a privileged few or Nick Clegg’s solemn pledge to oppose any increase in tuition fees, their record of failure and broken promises show they have scant regard for the future of young people. At the general election on May 7, Britain’s young people can hold these Tories and the Lib Dems to account. But the election is about more than that. It is about who this country is run for: working people, young people, or just a very few people at the top? The outcome will determine what kind of future young people have on jobs, education, homes and the environment. That is why it is so important their voice is heard loud and clear over the next few months. It’s great that the Daily Mirror is behind the independent #NoVoteNoVoice campaign because there is a real danger that hundreds of thousands of young people will lose their voice. Labour is publishing new figures showing almost one million voters have disappeared off the Electoral Register in the last year. This is a direct result of the government ignoring warnings that rushing through new individual registration reforms would damage democracy. It is this government’s final insult to young people. We will not stand by and let this scandal happen. Labour will lead a national mission to stop the young being denied a voice in this election. I urge universities, councils, and young people themselves to play their part. Let’s work together to register young people to vote and make sure they don’t lose their voice. Dont lose your vote, register to vote today: https://gov.uk/register-to-vote mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/ed-miliband-government-betraying-next-4987068
