Almost two weeks of fine weather. Is it ridiculously to be ludicrously thankful for this? Last week, I blogged about the perfume of detergent coming off runners on the bike path. This morning, it occurred to me its not detergent, but those sheets to be used in tumble dryers to address static electricity. They smell of cheap chemical musks. I find the idea of musks which are meant to smell fresh confusing. When posters on boards or blogs discuss wanting fresh-smelling white musks thats confusing too. Musk is meant to be animalic. Not clean. Not soapy. Not fresh. The poor deer didnt give up its bits to make us smell like we were freshly laundered. The perfume equivalent of deganging a tiger. Rather, musk was meant to imply we were doing, or were capable of doing, dark, mysterious deeds potentially with mysterious people. Rant over.
