Aloha, Here is our November 26 message on our response to the #PunaLavaFlow from the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo and Hawaiʻi Community College. Current Situation: Scientists and Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense have concluded there is no indication that the active lava flow is near Pāhoa or Highway 130 at this time. This is the last weekly message we will send out on this episode, but we will remain vigilant in tracking the flow and will communicate with you if there are any new developments that may impact our people in Puna. Resources: The UH for Puna website will remain online if you wish to refer to the resources posted there hilo.hawaii.edu/puna-lava-flow. Support: If you continue to be impacted by the flow in some way, for example scheduling problems because your children have been transferred to a different school, you should speak with your supervisors or instructors. Stay Informed and Remain Prepared: We recommend you stay informed and remain prepared for lava flow activity that may impact you. Visit the County Civil Defense website hawaiicounty.gov/active-alerts/ and follow any new instructions. Please also visit the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory website for flow updates hvo.wr.usgs.gov/. Mahalo: We would like to thank the UH community for working together in finding solutions to anticipated problems and for supporting each other through this episode. We are proud of the patience and aloha shown. Because of you, we are now better prepared than ever before and poised to form a committee to create policies that govern our response to lava events. Have a Happy Thanksgiving. Don Straney and Noreen Yamane #UH4Puna
