Alokitomon meeting minutes –July 2013 Place: 5 officer court, Werribee, VIC 3029 Date : 06-07-2013 Participants: 1.Wahid Vai 2.Wahid Vabi 3.Shishir 4.Sumon 5.Sumi Vabi 6.Hasib 7.Ratan 8.Sagar 9.Babu 10.Kiran Vabi(partly participated) 11.Sakib 12.Adiba(partly participated) 13.Upama 14.Ronny Meeting Agendas: Welcoming female members: In the beginning of this meeting, we welcomed some of our female members who joined us in this meeting .everyone in this group is a proud member of Alokitomon by default. So, Alokitomon always welcome and expect all our members (male and female) in joining us in every meeting and bring us more ideas, projects and help Alokitomon make many more differences. So a big thanks to all members who joined us in this meeting and gave us many valuable ideas. Updates on current projects: •Sumon Vai Project- Income and profit details are same as last time. However, the Freedom fighter is still very pleased and he reports his activities very proactively to the authorised personnel and trying his best to save more money and increase his income. •Wahid Vai Project-The easy bike hasn’t been sold as yet, instead its battery has been repaired by about BDT 2000 and that should run it for another year or so accordingly. At this stage, Alokitomon has decided that it will review this arrangement time to time e.g. every 3-6 months. However, according to the members, Alokitomons still consider to sale it and find any better alternatives for that family before the easy bike’s condition gets any worse than now. Discussion on Fund Raising: Members presented in the meeting agreed to increase alokitomon’s funds so that it can initiate more projects and accomplish its mission more and more. Two primary ways of boosting the funds were discussed as below: 1.Members can make more contribution through monthly subscription. 2.Apart from monthly donation, Members can contribute a minimum amount on every meeting for the after meeting dinner treating that as fund raising dinner. The above two options were discussed and reviewed thoroughly in the meeting. The first option (more monthly contribution) was straightforward and realised by everyone that it is definitely a good way to boost the fund but it still depends on individual member’s discretion and circumstances. So, Alokitomon will discuss more on this issue on next meeting. The second option (food for money ) Some members proposed this option to be optional and some to be mandatory. On the other hand, it was also discussed, regardless it’s become optional or mandatory, what should be the process of collecting this fund ?whether it would be collected on the meeting night after dinner or whether members can pay it with their monthly donation. To make it fair, a poll was conducted among the presented members (1. Should it be compulsory/optional .2 should members pay it with monthly donation or the dinner). However, members yet to make the final decision since some members were not present in this meeting so independent poll would be conducted in the next meeting aagain among the rest of the members before it can make the final decision. New Policy: it has been realised in this meeting that before we make any concrete change or add any new policy in Alokitomon, we should conduct an opinion poll among members and we should possibly do this poll while all the members present in a meeting. New project proposition by Shishir: Shishir vai has proposed two projects in the meeting. The first one, a mid aged man (one side of his body is paralysed) drives rickshaw in Dhaka and lives there with family in a slum. Even though, he is not a freedom fighter ,he must be a real life fighter we can ever think of .Historically, he looked for many jobs for his survival and got rejected and then started to drive rickshaw with one side of his body. The rickshaw,he drives is the renting rickshaw However, he tends not to beg anyone for money, and instead he is trying to save some money from his current earnings so that he can buy his own rickshaw. He wants to drive his own rickshaw in order to make more money which he would be able to use for his regular necessities as well as for his children education. every member presented in the meeting appreciated this proposal and agreed to help this gentleman in buying a brand new rickshaw asap just to ease his challenges a bit. Alokitomon thanked Niti Vabi who originally brought this up from Dhaka to Alokitomon. The second proposal from shishir vai is in relation to a meritorious deprived student who needs help in pursuing his studies which will be discussed further in next meeting Next meeting agendas/ topics to be discussed: •Collecting and or updating on monthly subscriptions form members •updating on recent projects/ proposed projects/any proposal for new projects •Completing the poll for fund raising dinner option •Final discussion on increasing on individual donation /contribution •Other ways of fund raising(e.g. through investments, handicraft etc) •Reviews of two ideas from everyone in last meeting •Alokitomons expansion (e.g. adding new members) •Alokitomon’s involvement in natural/human-made disaster Thank you all for your participation. Kind Regards, Ronny
