Along with my legislative co-chairs Senator Richard Alloway and Representative Harry Readshaw, I hosted a joint briefing on the activities of the Legislative Military Installations & Base Development Caucus and the Governors Military Community Protection Commission (MCPC). The event was held to update lawmakers and state officials on the activities of the Caucus and the Commission. We discussed the value of the military installations in Pennsylvania, including Tobyhanna Army Depot in the 22nd Senate District, the economic impact of the installations and the defense industry in PA, as well as the thousands of military and civilian jobs that support families here in Pennsylvania while serving our brave soldiers, sailors, airmen and women here in the U.S. and around the globe. This dialogue and the work of the Caucus and the MCPC is important to defend Pennsylvania from the adverse impacts of cuts in federal defense spending and to prepare for the next round of federal Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) activities, likely to occur in 2017.
