Alright-- little rant here. A select few of you are not seeing the big picture of the ALS Ice bucket challenge. Okay, so YES-- the people that are doing it are only doing it so that they dont have to donate $100. And yes, they are instead spending money on the ice and bucket and spending time recording it instead of actually donating to the charity. At the surface level I can understand where you see the problem. However, ALS overhead cost for the amount of advertising theyve generated for the fund is $0. In this world you must make investments in order to see any kind of returns and reaching people through advertising is not cheap. Their investment is the ice water bucket option that lets people opt out of donating. People do it and send the awareness forward, propelling donations by hundreds and thousands. Hypothetically, so what if people did what many of you are claiming would be better and just donated what they would spend on the ice and bucket? What if they didnt publicly post a video that got X amount of likes (read: publicity for ALS)? Then the ALS would not have received several $100 donations that that person was able to enable by tagging 3 people... that tagged 3 people each (read: 9 more shots at the $100 donation)... that tagged 3 more people (27 more shots at the $100 donation), etc. Basically, with the $3 dollars people would donate according to your logic and the anticlimatic claim they *MIGHT* make on facebook would get the ALS charity nowhere. From a sales and marketing standpoint this is genius and the participation in the video that lets people opt out of donating is VITAL. #ALS #IceBucketChallenge
