Alright, Dave Hazen, heres another musical excursion with our deft leader, Sufjan Stevens. To begin with, lets listen to Jupiter, Bringer of Jollity from The Planets, by Gustav Holst. Alert listeners will note that one part of this piece has garnered fame in Midwestern Catholicism (is this a big deal in places besides Peoria and Chicago?) as the (perhaps overplayed, in my opinion) tune to the hymn O God Beyond All Praising. Of course, theres much more to this piece than that, as good as it is. As a hint towards whats to come, pay attention to the theme that shows up around 1:52 and 6:57. I chose this version mostly because of the enthusiastic efforts of the conductor. (Also, the version conducted by Sir Georg Solti that I grew up with was not to be found on YouTube.)
