Alright, I apologize but I am really fired up about this whole Walmart fight hunger initiative. First of all, brands like Hunts and Chef Boyardee mainly produce crap that should not be considered food. If anyone hasnt noticed, there is a very strong correlation between being in poverty and being overweight. These brands produce cheap calories and putting more of this crap into peoples stomachs that dont have the luxury of being able to afford good food only makes this problem worse and greatly increases our health care spending as a nation. Lastly, the whole Spark Change in Your Community is a great message but also a horrible lie. Food Banks and Food Pantrys are like putting band aids on the broken leg of poverty and hunger in America. Its not solving the problem long term and in a way, allows places like Walmart and McDonalds to continue to exploit their employees because, well....They can just get food from the food pantry. Walmart wants to appear to be the good guy and care about an issue like hunger but they wont pay their employees enough to feed themselves and pretty much pay them so little that they can only afford to shop at Walmart. A study done in Wisconsin showed that a single Walmart store costs tax payers nearly $1,000,000 in Food Stamps, Medicaid, Housing and Utility assistance. We are subsidizing Walmarts wages and these programs are more of a hand out to Walmart Corporation than they are to the employees who work full time and still cant make ends meet. If we are serious about cutting government spending, first of all lets look at subsidies we hand to corporations and the military budget, then we need to talk seriously about increasing minimum wage. We cant continue to gut social programs without asking employers to pay their workers a living wage or people will starve. I hate this company and refuse to shop there. I mean, last holiday season, they held a food drive for their own employees. How much of a slap in the face is that? We recognize you cant feed your families but were not gonna do anything about it so well ask our customers to help you out. #WalmartCostsYourMoreAlways
