Alright Kids. I spun the wheel land the lucky number for Pet of The Day landed on our pup, Karma. Mike OShaughnessy, this extra wordy post is especially for you. I chewed my way out of my muzzle. Ha! Im not in jail either. Not yet anyway. Karma just turned one in June. She is our only pet who is not Rescue but came from a Breeder. Before you Rescue people get up in arms about this, Karmas Breeder is Not backyard, nor Puppy Mill. She is in it because she loves the breed and wants to improve it, not destroy it. German Shepherds became so popular that they were being bred right and left and now they have a myriad of health problems. Mostly hips and elbows, but many others including bad temperament in some. Karmas breeder Hester Haus German Shepherds wants to eliminate those health issues and temperament problems. She does extensive research, DNA testing and is so selective that in 4 years she has only had 2 litters of puppies. All exceptional! Karma is one of those puppies. I wasnt looking for a puppy or another dog at all. I was just minding my own business doing some Rescue stuff when my chat window pops up and my dear friend and retired K-9 officer asked me if I would be interested in an exceptional pup? Then he showed me a picture of her. She was 8 wks old. At the same time I typed Youre killing me! He typed, Im killing you arent I? Thats how she came to live with us. We were hand selected to get one of the pups. Karma is West German Line. Her Mama comes from one of the oldest and most respected kennels in Germany, Kirshental. She is show line, but can also work. She is by far the smartest dog I have ever had. She is also the most challenging dog. That brain of hers Must be stimulated or shell find something to do and its usually not something I want. I constantly have to give her busy work. Karma understands commands in four different languages. English, German, Spanish and American Sign Language. She knows how to open doors, windows and lift the toilet seat. She can tell time. Knows exactly when breakfast and dinner time is and will bring me her bowl if I am late. Karma has a fetish for knives. Yes, knives. She will pull them out of the sink, off the counter and out of the dishwasher. She hoards them in her crate. No worries, she never cuts herself. Her knife skills are Excellent! She is also a grave robber. Dont get me started on that! Thats our Karma. Karma, we love you anyway. ps. Was that long enough for you Mike?
