Alright, Paul Sell challenged me to name ten movies that stuck with me, influenced or inspired me over the years. Thats a toughie, so Im going to narrow it down to what I watching as a weird, movie-obsessed teenager, when I was particularly impressionable. These are the ten movies that changed how I look at the art form...and Im sort of disturbed by how dark and violent they turned out to be. This explains so much. [in alpha order] A Clockwork Orange (1971, Kubrick) Dawn of the Dead (1978, Romero) Harold and Maude (1971, Ashby) Jaws (1975, Spielberg) Kill Bill, Vol. 1 (2003, Tarantino) Magnolia (1999, P.T. Anderson) Psycho (1960, Hitchcock) Pulp Fiction (1994, Tarantino) The Royal Tenenbaums (2001, Wes Anderson) The Shining (1980, Kubrick) Im already regretting leaving some off, but there you have it. Dan Webster, Brenan Chambers, Mark Hay - your turn, if youre feeling it.
