Alright, discussion time guys: I was on the SSBPM subreddit when someone posted a comment that caught my attention. It was specifically referring to people playing around the cast and how it can hurt a player. The specific quote was, So often around here I see people ask What character should I pick to beat this character as if this is pokemon and you need a team of 6 to win. Ive seen a lot of people fall in and out of this scenario, where they lose hard, then immediately ask Who is the hard counter to Toon Link? and then go, try and pick up that character and play then anytime said character comes up. And it applies for all of our games. My main thought on this subject, that if youre gonna try and do this, you gotta put the work into it to justify it, and understand that by doing it, youre taking very valuable time away from flushing out another character to the max. Particularly I see this happens when people move from being a beginner to early to mid intermediate.I just see so many people play the counter-pick game, instead of the game at hand, and they are not as good as they could be because of it. Its not rock-paper-scissors. Character specialization in a balanced game is a very powerful thing. Granted I also mentioned it being a balanced game. I get that both T-Hawk v Blanka & Juri v Hugo are both 8-2. Not too knowledgeable on smash match-ups. But they are winnable in there current states. Its not quite like we have a kokonoe or brawl MK that we have to create specific anti-tech because 9/10 people will pick this character. Now this also isnt really talking about a few things. First time picking up the game, and playing around the cast, is totally necessary and encouraged for you to find the right character. Trying to play people you have hard match-ups against to learn how they play and put yourself in the mindset, even better. And playing people on the side for funzies is kool 2. Thoughts and opinions below plz.
