Alright, here we go… Quite a bit of hoopla in the CrossFit - TopicsExpress

Alright, here we go… Quite a bit of hoopla in the CrossFit community today created by this article: erinsimmonsfitness.me/2014/04/17/why-i-dont-do-crossfit/ If you have a few minutes, read it & tell me what you think. My thoughts… REALLY?!? Any validity she may have lent to reasonable concerns of the safety & efficacy of CrossFit lost all credibility with her final paragraph: Boxes have attempted to combat the bad reputation of CrossFit by saying that other gyms do bad stuff but their gym is different, their coaches know good form, their gym focuses on safety. This is simply not true and every single thing that I’ve posted in this article refers to EVERY SINGLE GYM THAT FOLLOWS CROSSFIT. There are no exceptions, if you’re following the WODs, it’s not good for you, it’s not safe, and you’re putting your health in danger. Take it for what it’s worth, but please believe that your box is NOT different, no matter what your coach says. Wow. The bigotry is astounding. To lump all into one is not only irresponsible, its ludicrous. Notwithstanding the brainwashed fog she seems to think all CrossFitters walk around in, I see a clear correlation between her statements & saying that all schnauzers are bad because one bit your friend or that all people from Minnesota are crooks because a Minnesotan ripped you off. So asinine, its comedic. Here are a couple of great rebuttals written by people who write way better than me: https://medium/p/45e6c8057640 derzfitlife.wordpress/2014/05/27/response-to-erin-simmons-why-i-dont-crossfit/ but here’s my favorite & IMHO a must-read: allsportcrossfit/12-foot-wall-covered-with-butter/ Obviously, this is my business, so I am slightly biased. As such, my knee-jerk reaction was to post a nasty comment in response. After some reflection, I really just feel sorry for this girl. She’s missed the whole point. “The magic is in the movements, the art is the programming, the science is in the explanation, and the fun is in the community.” CrossFit is not for everyone & that’s ok. If Ms. Simmons had done any research at all she would have found this article, written by CrossFit’s creator, Greg Glassman: library.crossfit/free/pdf/Virtuosity.pdf A very short, but good read that, to me, defines what a good coach (& in-turn, box) looks like. There will always be naysayers. Let us move forward with Virtuosity.
