Alright, heres my take on the whole Cliven Bundy situation. First, Mr. Bundy and his friends were clearly trying to provoke another Waco type incident. The Federal Government was smart enough to see through their plan, and didnt take the bait. Second, the Federal Government paid for the Mexican Cession (at gunpoint, to be sure) for $15 million in 1848. That includes Nevada (and Arizona, for that matter.) One could argue the ethics of the Mexican War, and in fact the Paiute have a legitimate claim to the land Mr. Bundy is grazing his cattle on, but one thing is certain-- neither he nor his ancestors ever paid a nickel for it. So however dubious the ethics of the way the land was taken are, the government can produce a bill of sale, and that is more than he can produce. Third, Mr. Bundy buys and sells cattle. That is a multimillion dollar business. There is no way he can run that kind of business in cash only, so he clearly has some bank accounts and perhaps other investments. If he owes the feds money, they can freeze or seize his accounts. Probably not today, and probably not tomorrow, but sooner or later they will recover what he owes in grazing fees, and all his militia friends wont be able to get them to put the money back in his bank account. He should ask the Iranians how effective the government can be if they want to prevent you from doing business.
