Alright, just wanna get some opinions on this. Its coming up to the 12th. And you all know im not a big fan. Not because of what it represents, but because of what actually happens. Massive inconvenience to traffic, businesses and residents, public drunkenness and other associated nastiness (litter and piss everywhere), blatant illegality and police willingness to overlook said illegality. But thats all cool, because not everyone cares about these things and are willing to overlook them in the name of the celebration. What i cant understand (and i hope some of my pro 12th friends will help enlighten me on this) is how can anyone overlook the bonfires? Hundreds if not thousands of bonfires, buring hundreds if not thousands of wooden pallettes (which are expensive to build and designed to last for years), scrap, trees and even car tyres. This is an absolute atrocity for the environment, massively illegal and accomplishes nothing. I was driving past the belvoir bonfire the other day, and its literally on the footpath, beside the road and is about 20 feet high already. How is this safe? How is this allowed? So anyway someone please defend bonfires. I dont want to see this become an excuse to shit all over one another. If you want to hurl abuse, make your own post. I want bonfire fans to explain to me how they are justifiable.
