Alright ladies and gents...heres a new scene from Book 4, To Win The Guarded Heart... MUHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA! Enjoy!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tian sluggishly lifted his hand from the covers and touched Phara’s face, catching her tears on his fingertips. “You, stayed,” he breathed out. She closed her eyes and kissed his palm. “I never left.” His skin tingled and a wave of energy surged across the small bit of space separating them. “What, happened?” “You tried to die…” He wanted to know more but the slink of a blade being drawn twisted her head around. Instinctively he slid his arm around her and rolled, pulling her along. The blade sliced across his exposed back and he hissed in pain. “What the…” She lifted her head, eyes wide at whatever or whomever was behind them and shot her arm over his shoulder. When it reappeared in his line of sight, the hilt of the weapon sat flush with her skin, blood dripping from the end poking through the underside of her arm. “Sian, what are you doing?” “I am sorry,” Another woman said, tears in her voice. “But I must.” Phara grabbed him and rolled them off the bed. He tried to cushion the impact and not crush her, but his arms were too weak to do much good and she let out an oomph. How long had he been out? Quite some time apparently given the frailty of his body. On the floor, Phara rolled again and all but shoved him under the bed. Bolting upright, there was a slurp of sound before a second set of boots came into his line of sight. The pair pushed back and forth but he couldn’t tell from his vantage point who was winning. Phara’s boots danced back a step and she grunted. “Why Sian?” “He will kill,” the other Naiad said, her feet advancing. “My family.” The soft thunk of a blade entering flesh followed that not-so-simple statement and Phara hissed, one foot slipping in the blood trail she was leaving from her arm wound. “Who?” The pair spun around and backed away from his line of sight, but he could still hear their conversation as he feebly worked to squirm out from under the bed. “I cannot say.” “Tell me, I will help you.” Halfway out, he reached for Sian’s foot, hoping to yank it out from under her, but they twisted out of his reach and around the end of the bed. “You cannot. It is too late.” Phara hissed again and he levered himself up onto his knees in time to see Sian sink another blade into her side. She wrapped a hand around the weapon and pulled back, wrenching it free of Sian’s fingers. “It is never too late. Let me aid you.” Even though the other woman was clearly intent on killing her, his Phara was still trying to help. Which made him admire her all the more. And spurred him into action, despite the shaking in his limbs. Surging forward, he tackled Sian mid-thigh and they both went over in a heap. Phara, his spunky Naiad, took the moment and jumped on her chest, landing one solid punch across the woman’s jaw…
