Alright my friends, keep in mind I didnt start this. I currently dont have TV to divert my attention as Im moving at the end of the month (yes, to a house that has half the taxes of my current one), so I read the article that many of you shared. Now dont get me wrong I happen to like Bill, I just dont think he should be mayor anymore because he seems to lack the ability to look at the whole picture. Case in point; in this article he states that putting money aside for emergencies is simply good financial management. Hes right, but what he is failing to look at (as are many current members of council) is where this money is coming from. What Im about to state assumes that I am not the only member in this community in this position, I dont want you to get the impression that this is a selfish issue, its a community concern, a look at the whole picture. So getting back to good financial management, my wages have not increased with inflation, eight years ago my taxes were $175/mth, they are now $415/mth, thats a difference of $240/mth. My emergency fund is $200/mth. Assuming everyone has such a fund why does the city feel that individual households should give up their emergency funds in order to support the citys? Doesnt good financial management look at the whole picture, and responsibly allocate funds to meet both current and future needs? I believe the current administration lacks the ability perform as well as they speak. Few of us have the luxury of arbitrarily increasing our income (taxes) to meet shortfalls or mismanagement and must make do with what we have or find other sources. Also, lets consider Bills humanitarian project of affordable housing in the whole picture. How does increasing taxes help with this issue? Doesnt higher taxes lower the amount a person can qualify for when applying for a mortgage? Doesnt it increase rents? After all landlords have to pay the property taxes. Im not suggesting that lower taxes is the answer but I am suggesting that a serious look as to why so much money is being spent with little results. This is an indication of waste and mismanagement, there are cities that are able to doe this. We cannot call ourselves innovative using the same old pattern of spend then increase taxes to meet the spending. We need people who will consider this community as a whole and an administration that is willing to look at how their actions affect everyone. People whos vision is of the community and not theirs alone.
