Alright my pastoral friends/readers of the Word- please feel free to help this chick out. Today I was reading Job 14:14 and Job states the question, If a man dies, shall he live again? While by his words before you would assume he is asking an obvious question, that he believes that death is final. We know from the New Testament that Jesus broke that barrier, and in Him we have new found life eternal. While this may sound REALLY silly, and the answer may be obvious- I was wondering what youre thoughts were on this subject. In the Old Testament it refers to the Bosom of Abraham which most believe to be the holding place of those who believed in God, followed His commandments faithfully waited for the Messiah, but unfortunately died before His coming. With this thought in mind- Job, being a man of God unfaltering in his faith, (Hence the Devils inquiry and affliction on his life), would in my opinion have been thought to believe in the concept of Abrahams Bosom. So why do you think he talks so much in Job 14 about death being final? His last breath is his last? Is he simply referring to life on earth only? Or was the concept of Abrahams Bosom not a practicing belief of the priests/temples of that time- and was only later recognized much later after Jobs death? Just a curious mind here- I could be completely off base and need to be turned around 360 so feel free to completely correct me (in love of course!)
