Alright so, All the sudden this year I started hearing folk sing the in excelsis Deo part of Angels we have heard on high, phonetically, like in ex-shel-shees Dayo. At first I thought it was a speech impediment and gave them a bye, but then I heard others doing the same, even professionals. I did some research, and it is debated the exact phonetic way to say the Latin phrase as it was originally written but everyone who reads/understands Latin understands it when you say, phonetically, in ex-sel-sees Dayo. The object of singing is to be flowing and melodic, not abrupt and make people lose focus especially in a hymn based song. It flows so much better pronouncing it this way! So whoever reads this and is going to attempt this song this Christmas and wants to keep the integrity/intent of the song, please dont try to be a language snob and get the pronunciation perfect, because no one knows what perfect really is in this case, make it flowing and melodic, the way the hymn was intended. Ill get off my soapbox now..Nick Young Ryan Sloan Kyle Whitaker
