Alright, so I just got done playing 3 hours of Hyrule Warriors - TopicsExpress

Alright, so I just got done playing 3 hours of Hyrule Warriors with a buddy of mine. So I thought Id share my initial thoughts. Every new player must play the first Adventure Mode mission first. BUT after that you can pretty much play any other mode. Also, a friend can play in any adventure and challenge mode (only played those so far). One plays on the touch pad while the other plays on the TV (seems like someone heard the Mario Kart suggestion). The game looks amazing! Unfortunately the Wii U has to cut the graphics quality quite a bit on the TV to support both screens. But since its all handled by one console, theres no feeling of lag or mis-synced graphics. The music is this perfect cross of LoZ and Dynasty Warriors. Its odd to explain how it mashes orchestral melodies with the exciting electric guitar rifts, but it works surprisingly well. Ive heard the fighting mechanics were DW for the open world and LoZ for certain bosses, but I couldnt believe it was comfortable. I was wrong. You will find yourself switching between these play styles with a shocking amount of ease. Long story short, the LoZ-invented z- targeting allows this easy transition between styles. Another happy surprise to me. A final note on the gameplay, older DW players will probably like to know there are no interruptions to other players like using musou in the old games did. However cut scenes, like opening chests, will take over both screens. So what dont I like? Well I wasnt happy about the graphics being degraded especially after fighting in such a beautiful world to start. But being able to play with a LOCAL friend is worth it to me. The Wiimote & nunchuk controls are frustrating at times. I still am not sure 100% how to attack. I couldnt tell what orientation I needed to swing and if I need to wait to swing another time. But thats about the only hard thing with that control scheme. Its not as intuitive as the touchpad or controller, but its doable. I may just buy a pro classic controller for this game. I love Zelda and Dynasty Warriors. So I was cautious and skeptical about this game from the start. But I feel a lot better now that Ive played it. It was done well and deserves the praise it has been getting. It is mostly a Dynasty Warriors game dressed in Zelda gear. But the story, world, enemies, artwork, sound, and even combat are everything you would want from a Zelda themed game. Fans of DW should also take this seriously. It has the character improving and depth that comes with those games. Tons of things to hunt for and every mode you would want--including an Empires-like mode full of challenges. Nintendo is patching in a lot of content for free soon, but based on what I have now I may just have to get the paid DLC. Thanks for a surprisingly well meshed game.
