Alright, so a few lovely people on this page have asked me to repost how I groom Miss Rumor. Unfortunately, I cant seem to find the collage I made of the steps I take, but I have this picture of Rumor showing her trims pretty nicely. Heres what I do after a good de-shed with my slicker brush and grooming rake: 1) Grind her nails with a Drumel, Ive been doing it since she was 4 months once every 2 weeks so her nails are incredibly short. I then use my clippers (#10 blade) to shave the hair from in between her pads. (I know some disagree with this step, but lets keep it friendly, yes? :-) ). After her pads, I use my shears to trim around her feet to make them nice and round. 2) Next are her hock areas (not sure what theyre actually called so work with me here lol) I use my slicker brush to brush the hair up, then use my shears to trim the hair so its even from the top of her hock to the back of her back paw. 3) Then my babys booty trim! Lol making round butts is a really fun part of being a groomer. Some of you will understand. Haha :-P Anyway, I use my shears to trim a round shape on the side of her butt, and make it an upside down V shape on the inside, blending it to be round on all sides. The pic where Im showing the upside down V shape is after a bunch of playing at the shop, so its not brushed out and fabulous looking. Lol! 4) The belly trim. I love love love the natural feathering I see on most Aussies, but my Rumor love love loves muddy puddles and dog park water bowls and the rain (which we get a lot of here in the PNW) so her belly has been trimmed up since about 6 months. I just take a little bit, its not flush with her actual belly or anything like that. I take just enough so that the stringy bits that would be there collecting mud, pine needles, sap, etc are gone and those problems dont happen for us. :-) 5) And finally, the front leg feathering. Just like the belly, I take off just the very ends so they look clean and even. I hope this helps, feel free to steal any pictures I have of Miss Rumor to show your groomer, I dont mind a bit! ;-)
