Alrighty Fellow citizens, here is what you voted for: Cuts for 2015-2016 (This scenario will be even worse if the state cuts our budget again. Our new governor is already talking about the possibility) The following are cuts because of the override failure 1. Approximately 161 layoffs district wide. These layoffs will come from the following areas. *All day kinder *Special areas and band will be reduced in all elementary *interventionist will be reduced in all elementary (we have already cut most of this in my school) *H.S. band will be a fee based participation *The fee to play h.s. sports will be increased. (we already have one of the highest pay to play in the state) *Increased class sizes (this will eliminate 110 teachers) *m & o (operating budget) will be cut for all schools Some other fun facts: 1. Since 2008, the Dysart school budget has been cut by 150 million. Yep, thats millions my friends. The public hasnt felt it much, because teachers have taken up the slack in working extra hours, covering interventions, loss of subs, increase in cost of benefits and loss in wages. We cant do any more my friends, so now it will get ugly. 2. The state has withheld money that legally belongs to school districst and we will probably not see a penny of it in the future. 3. If we have to cut the full 18 million over the 3 years, we will be back to the budget we operated on in the early 1990s when our district was struggling to perform and stay competitive. Also our attendance will have increased exponentially since the 1990s. The second year cuts are brutal. Ill post those later. So once again I will say, if you voted no, I dont get it for the life of me. Your property values are destined to decrease as the school district begins to take a downward spiral. If you didnt vote, then your non vote was actually a YES for the above.
