Alrighty, folks - this is specific to Brisbane people. A little while ago, security guards at the Beat outed and then violently assaulted a young trans man, Oscar, simply because he was using the mens bathrooms. The Beat has: 1. Done this before (had trans folk get physically assaulted by employees) 2. Never acknowledged or apologised, in the slightest, for this incident 3. Continued to defend transphobic employees 4. Deleted posts regarding this and similar matters from their social media platform 5. Targeted individuals who complain on their social media platforms 6. Banned individuals for supporting transgender victims of assault at the club 7. Launched a massively whiny rant about how the community is picking on them and insisted we should be grateful for their support of the community 8. The people who manage the Beats online presence have liked and supported comments that blatantly misgender transgender people, including many that called Oscar a girl or female 9. The people who manage their online presence have also liked comments by other patrons that insist Oscar lied about everything 10. Failed to keep their story straight for more than two days 11. Lied about messaging Oscars supporters 12. Lied about camera footage 13. Refused to release security footage of the incident 14. Repeatedly ignored witness accounts And this is all just the most recent incident. This HAS happened before, this WILL happen again, and if any of you in Brisbane still support the Beat with your patronage after all this, I will be very, very ashamed. If you support this business in any way, you are no friend of the trans community and you are no friend of mine.
