Alrighty folks sorry for the delay.. We will have an official schedule set up by Monday for the new therapeutic stretching class at Ultimate so please stay tuned! My goal with this post is to provide some basic information to those who have shown interest. The reason I am wanting to provide this is 2 reasons #1 I am beginning to see a trend with nagging muscular injuries specifically lower back which is stemmed from tight hamstrings. #2 as excited as we all are that everyone is ready to jump into the workouts it is still important to stretch and warm up properly..exercising in cold weather places extra demands on your body. It must use energy to maintain your core body temperature, in addition to providing energy for your working muscles .Cold weather tends to decrease our muscles’ flexibility, which increases the risk of injury. I highly recommend performing a 10-15 minute warm up consisting of increasingly more strenuous exercise and dynamic stretching prior to starting your regular workouts and in doing so you decrease the risk of muscle strain and increase your heart rate! As you know PowerCircuit and BOOTCAMP are not cake walks! we are engaging in complex multi-joint movements that require flexibility, balance and core strength. One of the best ways to increase performance is by introducing a method of stretching and muscle recovery utilizing a foam roller In the short here are how this simple tool can beneficial us: As its name implies, a foam roller is a large log made out of foam that helps your body to warm up for exercise and recover afterward. Among its many benefits are: -Improved circulation -Increased blood flow -Releases muscle tightness -Breaks down knots in your muscles -Reduces pain As you roll on it, fibrous tissue is broken down and circulation is boosted, helping to relieve tension and pain. When you perform various exercises with the roller it also helps to engage your muscles and build strength. Plus, because the foam roller is unstable, using it works your core muscles and helps improve balance. Many people wait to use a foam roller until they feel a tight spot in a muscle, then simply roll it out. While this can be effective, its a mistake to regard the foam roller as only an occasional fitness tool.
