Also, Im going to make this clear: police officers are not heroes. Hero is a label earned by ones deeds, not their occupation. A cop is not a hero by being a cop, just as a soldier isnt a hero by being a soldier. There are cops and soldiers that certainly are heroes, but they are by virtue of their valiant actions. Im addressing this because lately Im seeing a lot of hero worship being used to deflect criticism of police corruption. When you gun down unarmed kids for jaywalking, take a persons assets without charge, profile minorities, and unconstitutionally spy on people due to their religion, you are not a brave hero holding society together, youre a brute. Are all cops corrupt? Of course not. But you cant say that police brutality isnt an issue just because of not ALL cops abuse their power. Its the same bullshit reasoning used in # notallmen, because it doesnt change that a significant portion of law enforcement is held unaccountable for their actions.
