Altaf Bukhari reviews post flood relief, rehabilitation process in Amirakadal Urges administration to remove disparities in ex-gratia amount Srinagar, Dec 30: In his first official meeting after being elected to State Legislative Assembly, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senior leader and MLA elect Syed Altaf Bukhari Tuesday took stock of relief and rehabilitation process being undertaken for the flood affected people of his constituency Amirakadal. The meeting was attended by officers of Irrigation and Flood Control, PDD, Water Works, revenue, R&B and planning departments. During the meeting Bukhari was briefed by the deputy commissioner Srinagar Farooq Ahmad Shah about relief extended to flood hit people in entire Srinagar especially the worst hit Amirakadal constituency. Officers of the other departments also briefed Bukhari on the latest status of post flood rehabilitation work in Amirakadal constituency. During his briefing, the deputy commissioner Farooq Ahmad Shah said that the district Srinagar alone had suffered huge devastation due to unprecedented floods in September that caused damages to 72000 houses including 5300 fully collapsed houses. While as in rest of the nine districts, Shah informed that there were only 68000 houses that had suffered damages due to floods in September. Emphasizing on the officers to extend all possible help to the flood victims who have lost their family members and have been rendered homeless by the unprecedented deluge in September, the MLA elect took strong exception to the disparities found in distribution of ex-gratia amount under State Disaster Relief Fund citing various examples wherein many households have complained about incorrect damage assessments. Referring to the anomalies found in the distribution of relief amount, Bukhari stressed on the officers to speed up distribution of relief amount among the left out families and the re-verification process wherever there are genuine complaints about biased damage assessments. Bukhari asked the officers to ensure that all flood affected families get relief on priority as per norms. The MLA Amirakadal assured the meeting of facilitation of collection of 16 digit bank accounts of the flood affected people of his constituency. The MLA elect however said that any financial assistance must be transferred to the bank accounts of flood victims as per norms and after proper authentication. Similarly he asked the administration to ensure speedy rehabilitation of all homeless and displaced families by way of extending rental allowances before the first snowfall. During the meeting, Bukhari highlighted the difficulties faced by the flood hit families in Mehjoor Nagar, Methan, Gangbugh, Chanpora, Azad Basti, Natipora, Ikhrajpora, Kursoo Rajbagh, Jawahir Nagar, Maisuma, Sarie Bala, and Chinar Bagh who are still craving for official attention. Inviting the attention of officers towards the problems faced by the people of his constituency, Bukhari stressed on the administration to address the choked drainage, dismal power scenario; damaged transformers, lack of electricity poles and transmission wires and above all the dilapidated roads without any delay. He further stressed on the flood control and irrigation department to review its plans vis-à-vis the existing dimensions of flood spill channels in order to thwart any eventuality of floods that can be caused due to excessive rains ahead. While reviewing the status of encroachment around flood channels across Amirakadal constituency Bukhari assured full cooperation for removal of encroachments. He also urged the Irrigation and flood Control department, to undertake the necessary protection works including compaction at various places where the recent floods has breached the embankments especially along the banks of river Jhelum and flood channels. Asking the administration to go for repair of dilapidated roads in his constituency, Bukhari cited various areas like Methan, Azad Basti, Rajbagh, Ikhrajpora, Kursoo and Jawahir Nagar where the roads suffered huge damages due to floods in September and are still in dilapidated condition. Regarding the stock and supply position of essentials in Amirakadal constituency, the MLA elect emphasized on the administration to ensure adequate supply of ration in government depots, availability of LPG cylinders and other fuels like kerosene. While Bukhari was flanked by Haji Parvez Ahmad, PDP district coordinator Srinagar, the meeting was attended by Mohammad Ayoub Assistant Director Planning, Javid Iqbal Matoo Chief Planning Officer Srinagar, Dr Haroon-ul-Rashid Tehsildar Srinagar South, Altaf Ahmad Tehsildar Chanpora, Afroze Ahmad Mir executive engineer Irrigation and Flood Control, Lateef Ahmad Malik executive engineer water works Srinagar, Mohammad Amin Najar, Naib Tehsildar Kothibagh, Showkat Andrabi Naib Tehsildar Kursoo Padshahi Bagh, Ghulam Nabi Wani, Naib Tehsildar Rambagh, Shabir Ahmad Hakim AEE PDD electric division IInd, Tatheer Manzoor AEE (R&B) division IInd and other officers.
