Alternator BRACKET belt issue. 1983 300td wagon. I found out my alternator bracket was broken (when I took it to general mechanic to do the belts) both at tensioning bolt and bent bracket arm. So I purchased a new used one. PROBLEM the mechanics manual gives a belt size for my car but it is not the correct size(too big) and I know this a very common problem with w123 and w126 cars as far as parts places listing wrong size belts or manuls etc... mercedessource on the net even includes an extra different size belt because of the varrying sizes for whatever reason on all these cars. Well long story short. The new used bracket I had to obtain for them has been broken by them while trying to tension the belt listed in there manaul. They said I would have to pay extra if they wanted them to weld the bracket back together......???? I see them Monday as they are closed now. I was wondering if there is a different size brackets and I may have received the wrong one? But on the reciept it states my year make model for part. Are all the w123 and w126 adjusting alternator brackets the same size? I want to say yes but dont know for sure.....if they are all the same size this means there is no way this cost will be deflected on myself and may have to contact BAR. Wanted to confirm with some knowledgable mercedes folks first :) thnx in advance for any input.
