Although I am almost always unaware of my status as writer, I am - TopicsExpress

Although I am almost always unaware of my status as writer, I am reminded of this often by reactions of parents and children - especially children - in a way that is not only pleasurable but also highly amusing. Yesterday, I did an enrichment class for a group of 15 boys of Grade 5 at Campion. They asked my name, and when I told them it was Usha Pandit, they went into an awed silence first, then start talking all together in a roar. They had done Empowering English in grade 4 you see. Oh my god... you really wrote that book? How long did it take? Did they like it? Yes, it was rocking! No flattery, they are able to quote lessons and poems to show me they genuinely found it enjoyable. I was bemused. The admiration of children, the value you bring to their lives, the affection you earn. That is all one will actually leave behind in this world, and perhaps all that one will take away in a metaphoric sense.
