Although I disagree with comparing miseries literally, Murphy here is talking about media coverage and peoples response to what they are fed. Again I find myself wondering what misery could be alleviated if Canada still robustly supported the UN or continued to advance the UN interventionist policy R2P. In human disasters, like Darfur, a single Regiment of the PPCLI could have kept the slaughter to a minimum. So, we send troops into some nebulous fight against ISIS or rattle sabres (uselessly) against Russia, all the while third rate extremists cause unimaniginable attrocities that a single Canadian Battle Group could liklely resolve within a year. Weve lost sight of the real missions out there. As weve shifted from the multilateral UN to the unilateral (US-led) NATO weve lost sight of what gave Canada such a central place in world affairs.
