Although I grew up in Texas I have four places I have not visited I wished to before I honestly say I have seen my home state. Those are Big Bend National Park, The Davis Mountains (well I was too young to remember), Guadalupe Mountains National Park and Palo Duro Canyon. Today I saw the last. The view from the top was magnificent, but from the bottom looking up inspired a sense of awe that inspired a feeling that there is a creator and something bigger than ourselves. Having studied the history of General McKenzies pursuit of Quanah Parker it gave context. Quanah led a life and death chase through this complex of canyons often leading his entire tribe up and down the sides taking women, children and the elderly in places the Army says was impossible. Finally surrendering in the Indian Territories (Oklahoma) he led his people into the modern civilizations that are inspiring as he was when a warrior. I suspect I will be back to camp in the park next time.
