Although I have had 3+ years of medical education, I can’t think - TopicsExpress

Although I have had 3+ years of medical education, I can’t think of a more fulfilling week than the one I had at the SIMS program. I was immersed in a setting of healing and openness that was refreshing, especially after just finishing my clerkships. While traveling the path to becoming a physician it is quite easy to become burned out and jaded. But through this experience I was reminded again how important it is to realize that each person has their own story and each story has extreme value. While immersed with patients, I was able to learn about the complex nature of addiction and in turn I learned that I need to have a deeper understanding of addiction as I encounter it in the future. I am so thankful to the Betty Ford Clinic for allowing me to participate in the inpatient program and observe and engage in the program. Through this week I have a newfound understanding of addiction which I plan to carry forward in my career as a physician. The staff and all those associated with the Betty Ford Clinic are top class. I can’t remember growing so much as a person and a medical professional in such a short time. Additionally, being with the best SIMS students from around the country (AND CANADA!) allowed me to connect with others and we could not only develop skills and knowledge that we could carry with us, we also formed friendships and memories which we can keep with us in the future. Thanks so much for the wonderful opportunity!
