Although Victoria gave scant attention to the Welsh during her long reign, it seems that they nevertheless looked to her as an important symbol of British unity. Despite upheavals such as the Chartist movement and the Rebecca Riots, the prevailing self-image of the Welsh in this period was that of the ultra-loyal Britons who were wedded to Queen and Empire. (Welsh History Month is the month of September -we know).
