Although he possessed an amazing abundance of talent, Andrew Gold - TopicsExpress

Although he possessed an amazing abundance of talent, Andrew Gold never managed to record a Top 10 single in the U.S. as a solo artist. Gold was successful as a singer, songwriter, producer, arranger, sound engineer, session musician (on a long list of instruments), and occasionally acted and painted. His biggest U.S. hit was Lonely Boy in 1977 which peaked at #11. But how did this 1978 hit, Thank You For Being A Friend, not become a Top 10 hit? This song seems to have everything a pop hit requires. And it just continued to make appearances on television when featured as the theme of The Golden Girls or as a featured song in some series episode. Despite my opinion of its pop prowess, the song peaked at a rather disappointing #25 in April 1978. Andrew Gold died of an apparent heart attack in June 2011 at age 59.
