Although historically the conventional production of alfalfa has only required minimal amounts of herbicides, the USDA gave permission for Monsanto to produce Roundup-ready GMO Alfalfa seeds resulting in approximately 23 million tons more herbicides. Even though the Agricultural Plant Health Inspection Service found serious risk in genetic drift and ecological contamination, the USDA approved Monsantos seeds for sale and use in the USA. Now, the Center for Food Safety has sued to find out why the sudden and apparently 180 degree change occurred. While the gears of the justice system turn slowly, itll be interesting to see the results of the suit.
