Although known for his classic film musicals, Gene Kelly was also a versatile dramatic film actor, as we will see in this series of four films, seen in their eintirety: In Tay Garnett’s The Cross of Lorraine (1943), Kelly is a prisoner of war during World War II, attempting to escape a German prison camp and joining the French Resistance; In the coming of age story, Marjorie Morningstar, based on the Herman Wouk novel, and directed by Irving Rapper in 1958, Natalie Wood falls in love with Camp Musical Director Noel (Gene Kelly); and in Stanley Kramer’s 1960 film adaptation of Lawrence and Lee’s Inherit The Wind, Kelly is E.K. Hornbeck, a journalist reporting on a very controversial trial, Not a song is sung, nor a dance attempted, but Gene Kelly really packs a wallop in each of these four film roles.THREE SESSIONS: The Cross of Lorraine (February 6th), Marjorie Morningstar February 13th) and Inherit The Wind (February 20th).
